When the Media Department at the Metropolitan Opera wanted a partner to help with a promotional film for the Texaco-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network, they turned to Visionsmith for production and post production services. We worked with Met producers to plan a mixture of Met television broadcasts, historical backstage video and our own new documentary footage to tell the story of the preparation and production of a live radio broadcast series.

New footage was procured on the DVCam digital tape format using our Sony
DSR D-30 camera and either a Fujinon 19x7.8mm lens or a Fujinon 4.8mm wide angle. One shoot also utilized a Sony DSR-500 one-piece DVCam camcorder. Other footage was originally shot with broadcast equipment on a Unitel (RIP) mobile production truck for various Met telecasts, including a 1998 PBS broadcast of Carmen for which both the camera operators involved with this promo won an Emmy.
